It’s probably fitting that my first post highlights that I’ve got a lot to learn in this game.
Having read all the advice and guidance from the guru’s of domaining (you know who you are) I am really confused to see LifePrograms.com fetch a whopping $55,000 as reported at DNJournal this week.
The phrase [life programs] has 28 global monthly exacts, low ad competition and the obligatory low level CPC of £0.06. So what’s so special about it? Is it one of these ‘holy grail’ domains that you hold onto in the hope that one day someone has a need for it that’s so special they will pay you $55,000 to get their hands on it?
If Life Programs were the in thing then surely there would be more monthly exacts to speak of. I then wondered if all the other TLD’s for that term were registered and that maybe this was the angle. Having checked this out the TLD’s are on the main taken but most are just parked and there’s nothing of any note going on apart from at the .org where there’s an enlightenment program website. Is it the .org people that have splashed out $55,000 for the .com?
Is this just a case of a domain being worth what someone who wants it is willing to pay? If so, how the hell did the price end up at $55,000?! What did it start at?! Regardless, you’d certainly owe the broker a beer or two after sealing this deal for you if that’s how it happened.
Who knows. Someone please shed some light on this for me. I will be really grateful and it will help me on my learning curve.
Thanks for reading my first post.
I had a thought that it might be due to the ‘lifestyle coaching’ craze of late.. but that said, wouldn’t it be ‘lifestylecoaching.com’ that should be chalking up the $55k price tag here?!
I agree. Its totally bizarre. That’s what happens when someone with buckets of money falls in love with their business idea and has a dreamy vision that the domain name they thought of based on no knowledge or research at all will be the deciding factor of their success because it has a ‘cool ring to it”.
